We were overrun by rabbits. They lived in the brush of the swamp and under the spruce tree.

Our son was camping out in a tent in the front yard when this
bear wandered into the front pasture. It was about 500' from the tent.

This bear was obviously just up from hibernation. It just sort of slowly moseyed around and took a lackadaisical look at the
compost bins and drifted back into the woods.

There were 2 or 3 hen turkeys that had 42 poults between them
in the spring. These are all that survived.

Bryde the house cat had chased a chipmunk into this azalea
next to the back steps. She could not get into the shrub and the chipmunk perched there much like a bird for a long time.
The bobcat by shelter August 2006

We've seen this bobcat several times, always in this area. It's
sitting next to the shelter in the front pasture, about 100'
from the house.
We are outside, trying to catch Bryde the Brainless who wants
to stalk it. You can see it finds the whole thing amusing.

When this woodpecker showed up at the feeder, I had a hard time identifying him. The ruff over the beak threw me. But it's just the feathers ruffled from pounding the suet block.

This big handsome guy showed up outside the dining room
window at suppertime. The sun was low in the sky and the iridescence on his feathers was beautiful.

There were a couple of these boys and several hens. They came
up to within 5' of the house.

This garden is mulched with heavy wet leaves of hay. But those robins are determined to find the worms and they turned over
those heavy leaves to do it. There are 7 robins in there digging
Doe & fawns in the middle pasture November 2007

It's 9 AM in the morning and this doe and fawns are not bothered about being in the pasture between the house and the barn. They are only 40' from the house.
Fawn in the front yard July 2009

This fawn appeared in the yard and Bryde stalked it all around
the house. There was no sign of it's mother.
Baby vulture June 2010

This baby vulture appeared one day. It could get itself up about
4-5' onto posts, but mostly it waddled around on foot. At one point we found it in the barn across from the chicken coop, perched on the stall wall.
We called the local raptor rehab person we knew but by the time
he got to the farm, the bird had disappeared. About an hour after he left, the baby vulture reappeared in the middle pasture.

We have an injured chicken living inside in front of the front door. She was making a racket one day and our son saw the owl in the tree at 11:30 on a snowy morning. He got this picture of it.

We have often seen cardinals in this tangle. But seldom have we seen such a brightly colored male in winter.
Bats in the barn July 2011

White nose syndrome has wiped out the little brown bat
population. We didn't know if our bat colony would return
But they are back and seem to be doing fine. We had hoped
to have them studied as Boston College had expressed interest
but so far no one has come out.
